Trooper Soft Shell
- Reviewed by Yosser
Check out the latest offering from Helikon-Tex to join their range, the Trooper Soft Shell Jacket. Featuring all of the characteristics first seen in the Helikon Gunfighter Jacket (see the Review here) you could see this as a natural evolution in the soft shell range.
The Helikon Trooper soft shell comes in either Black, Alpha Green, Coyote, Olive Green and is made from 98% Nylon, 2% Spandex which gives the material flexibility and is of course coated for water resistance. The materials aid in body heat retention whilst allowing body moisture to dissipate through the material. Light weight and easily packed into a backpack without taking up too much room.
The hood as usual is retained in the collar and is adjustable for the wearer via the cords threaded through into the jackets main pockets. All zippers on the jacket are produced by YKK and made from Nylon, with the main jacket (two-way) zipper and main pockets carrying a Helikon branded zip pull to aide in their use with gloves. Lesser used zips located under the arms for ventilation including those for the hood stowage in the collar, arm and rear zippers are aided by corded zip-pulls.
The main chest pockets are nicely angled and each have an elasticated D-Ring located in them which are useful for attaching all sorts of ancillary items such as torches and keys. Each also has a useful pass through grommet which allows for comms or even your MP3 players headphones. Each main pocket even contains 2 smaller inner pockets one suitable for a pen and the other more ticket sized, which also prove useful for keeping items stowed during use.
Both upper sleeve pocket have the tactical hook and loop for those patches all us airsofters love to have. Each is zipped and also contains the grometted pass through again for comms or whatever takes your fancy. The lower left fore arm also houses a small zipped pocket now ubiquitous on tactical jackets. Cuffs are elasticated and tighten by the use of Helikon branded fastenings. The lower forearms also afford a double layer of material protection on the jacket and like many other jackets from Helikon sport a rear zip section on the lower back of the jacket which I have still to find a use for.
Internally the jacket has just one pocket situated below the Trooper label simply closed by a hook & loop fastening. All the seams are well over-locked and I’m glad to see the bottom of the jacket can be adjusted via the shock cord terminated toggle fasteners.
Yosser says: This is a great lighter weight alternative to the Helikon Gunfighter Jacket which is currently my personal jacket of choice. It's easily stowed away and carries all the tacticool patches airsofters love to have. It's hugely practical and allows for a good range of movement whether in an urban setting, hiking or camping, no matter what your our-door hobby. It provides good water resistance & weather protection, although you will need to use other base layers for warmth. Highly recommended for your kit bag.

Hi Yosser,
One question... Helikon Trooper vs Helikon Level 5? Which one would you recomend more for hiking, camping and things like that?

Lvl 5 is probably more practical and can be worn over a fleece.
